World's oldest print publishers win prize for electronic journal

Oxford University Press has always been quick to take up the challenge
of the information technology revolution. The company printed its first book
in 1478, only 2 years after Caxton's first printing

The Prize.......

The EMBO Journal Online  has just been announced as the overall winner
of the 1997 Charlesworth Group Award for Electronic Journals.

The Award was set up last year to promote excellent design in electronic
journals and to recognise the journals which the judges consider to have
reached the highest standard. The competition was fie

                        * Functionality and ease of use
                        * Innovation
                        * Ease of navigation.

The Winner......

The EMBO Journal Online  was launched by Oxford University Press in October
1997. It is based on the print version of one of the world's most highly cited
molecular biology research journals, but it
* Future issues of the journal can be viewed in advance of the printed version,
allowing researchers to keep completely up-to-date with key developments in the field.

* Information is more easily accessible - the full text of each article can be
 searched by author and keyword

* The EMBO Journal Online  allows the researcher to retrieve more information,
 without leaving the computer. With just a few mouse clicks, the abstracts of
 references cited at the end of each article
* A special e-mail service alerts the user that the latest issue of The
 EMBO Journal Online  has been released. This service can also e-mail the tables
 of contents of future issues (in advance of publication)
* For those wishing to submit an article to the journal,
instructions to authors and editorial contacts can also be easily accessed.
