POSITION OPENING:

Library Assistant II, Database Maintenance Section, Technical Services Dept.
California State University, Northridge

Full-time, Salary Range: $2421-2899/mo.  Open through Dec. 1, 1997.

DUTIES:  Under general supervision, maintains and edits the library's
bibliographic database.  Adds, deletes and modifies records, performs
searches, researches problems and conflicts, and reviews the authority
and bibliographic databases; resolves authority problems; researches and
resolves conflicts, discrepancies, Advance database load errors, and
problems referred by librarians, staff, and students of other library
units and departments; resolves cataloging problems; locates and
retrieves materials housed in all areas of the library; and assists in
developing and providing training to faculty, staff, and students.
Searches the OCLC database for selected bibliographic records to resolve
cataloging and authority discrepancies; catalogs materials with LC MARC
copy, and Library Member Cooperative cataloging; serves as backup when
supervisor is not present; and performs other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE:  Equivalent to two years of college. Equivalent to three
years of progressively responsible library clerical experience.
Additional college work in a related field may be substituted for two
years of experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, and DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:  General
knowledge of computer applications in the library, the academic library
setting, the library's collection, the system under which library
materials are classified, and the catalog; and knowledge of IBM PCs in a
networked Windows environment. Experience with OCLC MARC formats,
cataloging, and authority control; Library of Congress cataloging
practices; integrated library systems, especially GEAC Advance MARC
records management and authority control systems.
