Subject: The 1,000th e-journal
Around 1:00 p.m. today Christine Hunt in the Periodicals Section
of the Acquisitions Department added the 1,000th electronic journal to the
University Libraries' Electronic Journals region of the Online Resources
page.
The 1,000th title is _Journal of Materials Chemistry_ selected by
Nancy Schiller of the Science and Engineering Library who sent information
about the journal to CTS electronically.
The Electronic Journals region was created in the spring of 1996
as a means of providing access to all selected electronic journals through
a single location of the Libraries' website. The 1,000 titles which are
accessible via this region are presented in alphabetical order and
according to 19 subject areas. Entries in the indexes are linked to
locally-created and maintained information records which in turn are
linked to the electronic journals themselves. The availability of an
electronic journal is indicated in the UB Libraries Catalog with the URL
in the appropriate MARC field. This will permit direct access to the
journal from the catalog record once we have a web interface for the OPAC.
Congratulations to collections staff throughout the Libraries who
select electronic journals and to technical services staff who maintain
the region and provide the access.
Work with the region is guided by a policy statement which is
available at
