At the University of Denver, the student pays for the paper copies of
theses and dissertations, including the library copy. The library pays
for fiche copies of theses and for the film of dissertations from UMI.

I work in a college library and am in charge of the theses and
dessertations. I check that the proper format and guidelines are followed.
I then send them to the bindery and to UMI for microfilming. The student
pays all fees. Some depts. that request a copy do pay for it themselves.
Otherwise students pay for all copies, even for the library copies.

Hello Joe, @ Wheelock the Library pick-up the cost of binding copies that
are to be kept in our collection. Bye for now, Carla.

At my university, the students are required to give 3 copies of their
thesis/dissertation to the library. The library pays to have these copies
bound. We get the original and a copy. The third copy to return the
Graduate Office free of charge. The only ones the students pay for are
personal copies.

Hope this answers your question.

Joe Edelen asked about binding responsibilities for binding Masters and
doctoral theses and dissertations. At the State University of New York at
Buffalo, Central Technical Services, the following applies:

Master's Bound copies (2 copies) come to us from Graduate School. We have
no contact with the student. I assume that the student pays for the
         binding.

Doctoral Unbound copy (1 copy) is sent to UMI by the Graduate School.
We have no contact with the student. After UMI completes its
work, the unbound copy is sent directly to us (CTS). We bind
            at our expense.
