Gettysburg College is a highly selective liberal arts college located
ninety minutes from the Baltimore/Washington area.  Established in 1832,
the College has a rich history, and is located on a 220-acre campus with an
enrollment of approximately 2,100 students.

Acquisitions Librarian
Musselman Library

Gettysburg College seeks an Acquisitions Librarian to oversee the
acquisitions operations for Musselman Library.  Reports to the Head of
Technical Services and is responsible for the monographic and serial
budgets, standing orders, gift accounting and the supervision of 3.5 FTE in
acquisitions and serials.   Position is a twelve-month, on-going,
administrative appointment.

Oversees the administration of the library's approval plan for monographic
purchases and is responsible for all vendor relationships related to the
purchase of scholarly materials and related services.  Participates in
collection development and management activities, evaluates collections and
directs acquisitions activities to enhance research collections.  Maintains
effective communication with academic departments and the wider college
community.  Understands the interaction of traditional, non-print and
electronic information resources and emerging information technologies.
Translates that understanding into an aggressive acquisitions policy which
melds all of these within the context of the division's overall planned
growth and mission to keep pace with current trends in the field and to
meet users' needs.

Qualifications: Required: ALA-accredited MLS/MLIS.  Three to five years
experience with acquisitions and serials management in an academic library,
including supervisory experience.  Broad knowledge of issues and trends in
collection and serials management, information technology and automation in
academic libraries.  Strong interest in the development of electronic
serials and other resources, and in electronic document delivery services.
Experience with automated acquisitions systems (preferably Innovative
Interfaces), bibliographic utilities such as OCLC, and MARC formats, in
addition to experience with a wide variety of computer applications. Strong
leadership, communication and decision-making skills, and a commitment to
fostering a collaborative work environment.  Preferred: Budget management
experience. Working knowledge of one foreign language.  Evidence of
professional and/or scholarly activity.  Reference experience helpful.

                          THREE LIBRARY POSITIONS

Christopher Newport University, a state institution of 4,500 students
located in Virginia's Tidewater area, invites applications for three library
positions.  The Captain John Smith Library houses over 340,000 volumes and
is an active member of the Virtual Library of Virginia, a consortium of
academic libraries providing a growing collection of bibliographic and
full-text databases.  All librarians participate in reference services,
library instruction, and faculty liaison activities. Librarians may teach a
one-credit  course in research skills or Internet resources, and must be
willing to work  occasional weekends.  Librarians holding an MLS degree
have faculty rank and status, and must meet University requirements for
tenure and promotion, including research, publication and service.

Technical Services Librarian

Responsible for the coordination and supervision of the cataloging,
acquisitions, and serials functions of the library.  Participates in the
development of library goals, policies, and procedures; coordinates the
work-flow of the department and oversees its daily operation.  Responsible
for original and complex copy cataloging of monographs, serials
publications, audiovisuals and electronic resources.  Responsible for the
maintenance of the on-line catalog.  Responsible for collection development
and evaluation, and the purchase and processing of all library materials.
Supervises one librarian, five support staff and several student
assistants.  The position reports to the University Librarian.  Salary range
is low to mid 30's.

Required: ALA accredited MLS; progressively responsible experience in
cataloging; supervisory experience as a department head; knowledge of
cataloging procedures and resources, including AACR2, LCSH, OCLC and MARC
formats; experience with automated library systems; excellent interpersonal
and communication skills; planning, organizational and analytical abilities.

Preferred: Second master's degree; experience in library acquisitions and
collection development and evaluation; knowledge of serials functions in
academic libraries; experience in reference and bibliographic instruction;
experience with the VTLS system; experience in authority control; experience
in cataloging a variety of formats including scores and media material;
reading knowledge of a second language.

Access Services Librarian

Responsible for the coordination and supervision of the circulation,
stacks/reserves and interlibrary loan functions of the library. Plans and
maintains efficient procedures in these areas and recommends changes in
procedures to the Public Services Librarian. Assures that interlibrary
loan and reserve operations comply with U.S. copyright law.  Provides
reference desk service, teaches classes in library instruction as needed.
Serves as liaison to selected library departments.  Supervises three support
staff, two hourly evening supervisors, and 20-23 student assistants.  The
position reports to the Public Services Librarian. Salary range is low 30's.

Required: ALA accredited MLS; two to four years academic library public
service experience including supervisory experience; experience in reference
service, bibliographic instruction, and interlibrary loan operations;
ability to use OCLC terminals and microcomputers; excellent interpersonal
and communication skills; excellent supervisory skills, training, and
problem-solving ability.

Preferred: Second master's degree; experience dealing with consortia and
consortia members; knowledge of automated library systems; ability to use
major word-processing and spreadsheet programs; excellent analytical
ability.

Multimedia Services Coordinator

Responsible for the supervision of the Library's Media Center and
Multimedia Classroom.  Plans, develops, and coordinates rapidly growing
campus-wide multimedia services and resources, provides instruction in the
use of multimedia software and equipment for faculty and students.
Coordinates faculty technology training.  Works  closely with faculty
members to design and produce instructional multimedia materials.  Provides
reference service and library instruction. Probationary appointment as
instructional faculty (with an MLS); appointment as
administrative/professional faculty member (without MLS). The position
reports to the Public Services Librarian.  Salary range is low 30's.

Required: ALA accredited MLS; or Master's degree in Instructional
Technology or related field. Instructional media experience; knowledge of
electronic information resources; teaching or training ability.  Excellent
interpersonal and  communication skills; strong interpersonal skills.

Preferred: Knowledge of current trends in computer technology to support
instruction; knowledge of the production of educational multimedia programs;
supervisory experience; knowledge of Windows, System 7/8, Internet
resources, and HTML; reference experience.
