UMIST Library has recently added entries to the catalogue for all
online journals to which we have access, irrespective of whether or
not we take the print copy. In many cases the titles are duplicated.
Access can be gained from the web version of our library catalogue
(hht://www.umist.ac.uk/UMIST_Library/). I have not done extensive
research into how widely access may be gained from outside the
Library, but in the case of those internet sites for which we pay
(e.g. IAC) access is limited by domain name.
Hope this is useful.

Denise, it depends on part on HOW you have these electronic
subscriptions -- do you really HAVE them, ie, downloaded onto your PAC,
or on tape, or CD-ROM or something? or do you have an "access"
subscription, accessing the database elsewhere?

If you actually "own" them, and have them in your possession, my
understanding is that then yes, they can be union listed (should be? we
can play great semantic games here..). In our union list (ZCSU, the
OCLC-based union list of the California State University, all 20+ of
us), we use the single-record concept, attaching all formats onto the
bibliographic record of the paper copy; in that case, in the note
field, you'll need a standardized note similar to: Vols. 21- 1995-
available online on PAC. or: CD-ROM: v.21- 1995-

I don't think it has come up much on our list yet ... I'm the editor,
and no one has asked me, but they may be doing something all on their
own, which might be terribly squirrelly or exactly right: I just haven't
seen any entries yet!

We did discuss this, however, and decided that if you only ACCESS the
database that someone else has, it would be like union listing all the
things you can get on interlibrary loan, that you really don't OWN it.

I'll be interested to see the other replies you get: it will certainly
help me as a union list editor, as well as helping you!

Good luck
