A follow-up:

Based on the replies thus far (nowhere >near< a scientific study ;-) ), the
incorrectly-bound NEJM issue appears to be a regional phenomenon (possibly
even specific to western Washington State [USA]).  Probably worthy of
caution anyway, however.
