Subject: Social Security Numbers

Does anyone use something other than social security numbers to identify
students at your school?  If so, did you ever use SSN, and how did you
make the transfer to the other system?

Here at UWG, we use the ssn to identify everyone.  It concerns me,
especially when I read articles and hear tales of some unsavory person
using someone elses ssn to access information or cash checks, etc.  The
state department of public safety used to suggest using your ssn for your
drivers license number, but now they suggest otherwise.

So I just wanted to see what other folks are doing to identify students,
staff and patrons.
