SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY REFERENCE LIBRARIAN: Exceptional opportunity to
develop your career at an ARL Library. Auburn University Libraries,
serving a dynamic university community with highly reputable programs,
seeks a knowledgeable, and enthusiastic professional. Duties include
collection development and maintenance; general and specialized
reference services in the sciences, including some evening and weekend
desk coverage; online, INTERNET, and CD-ROM literature searching;
innovative use of emerging information technologies to enhance user
services; technical literature search assistance including
patent/trademark searching; participation in the library's
bibliographic instruction programs; serving as faculty liaison for
assigned areas to include selected physical science areas. Position
reports to the Head of the Science and Technology Department, one of
eight departments of the Reference and Information Services Division.
QUALIFICATIONS: Required: ALA-accredited MLS with a strong academic
background in the basic or applied science areas. Significant related work
experience will be considered in lieu of the required subject background.
Desired: Academic background or significant work experience in the
physical sciences; experience or course work in reference and database
searching in the sciences; experience or knowledge of printed and
electronic science and technology information sources; strong commitment
to excellence in the provision of reference and information services;
adaptability, flexibility, and ability to work collegially and
productively in a collaborative, busy, and changing public service
environment; a record of scholarly, professional, and research activity;
effective interpersonal and communication skills. Salary: $30,450 minimum,
12-month tenure track position.
Benefits: 20 days vacation / 12 days sick leave per year; state teacher's
