Position: Nebraska Newspaper Project Librarian, Assistant Professor,
non-tenure leading.  Grant funded to June 30, 1999.

Reports to: Chair, Serials Dept.

Duties:  Participate in the Nebraska Newspaper Project by publicizing the
Project in communities throughout Nebraska.  Involves making public
presentations regarding the project, building strong working
relationships with institutions holding newspapers in the state,
negotiating with institutions to borrow newspapers for microfilming,
gathering bibliographic information and conducting inventories as needed,
cataloging, and union listing.  Perform original cataloging and complex
copy cataloging for newspapers, primarily in microformats, as needed.
Contribute authority control headings to NACO as needed.  Work with staff
to develop wording for special microfilming targets.  Other duties as
assigned.

Qualifications: ** Required**:  ALA-accredited MLS.  Excellent oral and
written communication skills and the ability to build positive,
productive working relationships with others.  Must be able to work
flexibly and creatively in a rapidly changing environment, to readily
accept new challenges, and to be open to new ideas.  Must be able to
drive, have a valid driver's license, and to travel.  Demonstrated
knowledge of Library of Congress classification and subject headings, and
of AACR2R.  Familiarity with USMARC using OCLC or a similar bibliographic
utility.  Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.

**Preferred**: Experience in speaking before groups.  Professional and/or
pre-professional cataloging experience; experience cataloging with
INNOPAC or another integrated library system.  Be familiar with the
Internet and PC software packages.  Good working knowledge of German,
Czech, Swedish, or Danish.

Salary:  $28,500 for a 12-month contract.

Starting Date:  November 1, 1997.  Appointment date negotiable.
