PROFESSIONAL VACANCY - HARVARD

SERIAL RECORDS LIBRARIAN AND TEAM LEADER

Reports to the Head of the Cataloging Services Department of the Widener
Library.  Responsible for supervision and workflow management of Serial
Records Team. Supervises staff of 13 in all Team functions including
receipts and processing of acquisitions, periodicals, monograph series and
microforms and government documents.  Evaluates staff performance,
participates in policy  development and is responsible for implementation.
Participates in Team Leader Team planning initiatives and projects. Compiles
monthly and annual statistics and writes Team's annual report. Consults with
internal and external contacts to clarify and resolve problems and
discrepancies.  Participates in professional activities locally and
nationally.  Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related duties as
required.

Widener Library houses the central research collections for the humanities
and social sciences. The Library is a  unit of the Harvard College Library
which is administratively part of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. The
Cataloging Services Department is composed of  ten teams  with a combined
FTE staff of 70 FTE. The Department supports large scale production with a
highly automated environment.

Qualifications:  An ALA accredited MLS or equivalent; reading knowledge of
one or more Western European languages required; five+ years' professional
experience with demonstrated supervisory success required; superior
analytical, organizational, written and oral communication, and
interpersonal skills required; serials, acquisitions, collection development
experience in online environment, preferably in large research library, with
thorough knowledge of current standards and trends required; familiarity
with NOTIS highly desirable.

Appointment salary  commensurate with experience.   $43,700 minimum.
