ACQUISITIONS LIBRARIAN
RADFORD UNIVERSITY LIBRARY
RADFORD, VA
Manages acquisitions services, including monographic firm ordering and
receiving, serials ordering and receiving, and binding, using the INNOPAC
library system, and supervises three support staff in a consolidated
technical services department. Assesses acquisitions and binding methods,
policies, and procedures and recommends strategies for the effective use of
budget and staff. Prepares acquisitions budget estimates and monitors the
expenditure of the materials budget. Maintains statistics on acquisitions
budgets and expenditures for Technical Services and library reports,
collection development, and accreditation studies. Monitors performance of
contract vendors and prepares reports on vendor performance. Prepares
Requests for Proposals or Invitations for Bid for contract serials and
monographs vendors and for binding services, in consultation with the
Coordinator of Technical Services and the University Purchasing Department.
Participates in the evaluation of bid proposals. Reviews serials invoices
and approves for payment. Reviews and revises annual quotations for
periodicals subscriptions, serial standing orders, and microform
subscriptions. Participates in collection development, serves as library
liaison to one or more academic departments, selects library materials and
evaluates the library collection in designated subject areas. Reports to
the Coordinator of Technical Services.
QUALIFICATIONS: Required: M.L.S. from an ALA-accredited library school.
Broad knowledge of library acquisitions and serials receiving and claiming.
Experience in acquisitions and/or serials work and budget planning.
Familiarity with the serials and monographic publishing industry.
Experience in using automated library systems, preferably Innovative
Interfaces, and microcomputer applications. Excellent interpersonal and
communications skills. Proven ability to work collaboratively. Excellent
planning and organizational skills. High level of initiative. Ability to
adapt and lead in a changing work environment. Demonstrated successful
supervisory experience. Familiarity with serials cataloging highly desirable.
This position is a 12-month non-tenured administrative faculty position.
Salary: $30,000-$34,000, dependent upon qualifications and experience.
Comprehensive benefits, several retirement options including TIAA-CREF, 11
paid holidays, and 18 days vacation for the first two years, 24 days
thereafter.
