Subject: Position Announcement: SERIALS LIBRARIAN
SERIALS LIBRARIAN
BACKGROUND: The University of Miami Law Libraray serves the needs and
interests of the School of Law, its faculty and students. The Law Library
is also open for use by other members of the University community, by the
practicing bar, and by the general public. The School of Law's recently
renovated complex is located near the center of suburban Coral Gables,
Florida. The new facilities house the Law Library's substantial
collection, strong in taxation, estate planning, ocean law, environmental
law and international law. The Law Library also has noteworthy foreign
collections of Latin American and Caribbean materials.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Management of Serials Department in a library with 6700
active serials and monographic continuations subscriptions. Cataloging of
serials and nonprint formats in a variety of languages. Participation in
team management of Technical Services Department. Reports to the Head of
Technical Services.
QUALIFICATIONS: Accredited M.L.S. Two years professional level
cataloging experience, preferably in a law library. Experience with
OCLC or another bibliographic utility. Demonstrated supervisory skills.
Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to work well
as a member of a team, and to work effectively in a high-volume, sometimes
high-pressure, environment. Demonstrated interest in computer systems,
including an interest in keeping current with, and advising colleagues
of, new developments. Strong service orientation. Experience with
Innovative Interfaces and law library experience are highly desirable.
COMPENSATION: This is a non-tenure track faculty appointment.
