Subject: Strategic plan/5 yr. plan/library vision

I didn't get much response from the people in assinfo, so I'll try my
trusty compatriots in Autocat and Serialst.

I work at a non-profit association that went through a tremendous number
of changes in the last two years. The new CEO has asked each department
to develop a strategic plan. The public services librarian and I
(technical services) will be doing the library vision for the future.
We've been given some vague instructions about it being realistic, but
optimistic (?) and emphasizing technology and the knowledge organization.
Of course the organization as a whole has no strategic plan and our
mission statement dates back to our founding in 1799.

Since I work in a medical library, I don't have the general indexes to check.
I've found a few articles in my professional journals. Hopefully our
on-again-off-again Internet connection (another problem) will allow me to
do some searching in Uncover and some other places.

Have any of you recently done any of this strategic planning or visioning?
If so, I'd appreciate having a summary or seeing a copy (print or
electronic) of what you came up with. Have you run across any library web
sites that include their strategic plan?

For those of you interested, we are a small-medium sized medical society
library with four staff persons, 2 public, 2 technical, only myself with a
MLS degree at present, unfortunately. Because of our users' desire for
the latest thing, we only order about 200 books per year, and we have
about 350 journal subscriptions. We have automated catalog (since 1989),
acquisitions (since 1994), and serials (since 1992) modules from
EOSi (not enough circulation to automate). We serve the physician
members, corporate clients (mostly law firms), staff, researchers, and
the public. We have special collections in the history of medicine and
performing arts medicine.

I could describe our wonderfully unique library more, but you probably get
the idea. Any suggestions, article citations, web sites, etc. would be
appreciated. You may reply direct or to the list, as you wish. Thanks!
