Salzer" <masal@CONNCOLL.EDU> Subject: Re: TRANSITION(S) from OMRI (Marla Edelman) (fwd) In response to questions concerning "Transition (Czech Republic)": We receive ours through Ebsco, and the last issue we rec'd was v.3, no.6 for April 1997. Vol.4, no.1 is June 1997 and is a title change to: Transitions: Changes in Post-Communist Societies, ISSN# 1211-0205 I have not checked OCLC to verify this change, or looked to see if there was anything published after v.3, no.6 under the old title. I have the 1st issue in hand however, and it is still published by the Open Media Research Institute. Their email address is: transitions@omri.cz Hope this information helps. Aiello" <haiello@WESLEYAN.EDU> Subject: Re: TRANSITION(S) from OMRI (Marla Edelman) (fwd) On June 19,1997, we received v.4:no.1 (1997:June) of Transitions. Yes, the publisher does admit, via a lengthy explanation, as to why "...this issue has been renamed slightly as Transitions." (The ISSN is noted as the same as the one for Transition (sans 's). We subscribe to this title via the vendor Harrassowitz and so perhaps that is why we have had a different service versus your direct subscription: it's serials, right, why bother trying to explain! Additionally, v.3 was completed with no.6 (Apr.4,1977). In the publisher blurb they indicated Transitions is published monthly although it is not spelled out how many volumes will comprise a year's worth. In any case, in this most recent issue, there are listed the following telephone nos.for OMRI: Advertising Info (I know, not subscription, but better than nothing!) North America: Ellen Abrams; Kalish,Quigley & Rosen; 850 Seventh Ave.;NY,NY 10019; Telephone: (212)399-9500 Fax (212)265-0986 Europe: Anne Harvey Whipple Tel: (420-2)216 74 500; e-mail: whipple@omri.cz The publisher also lists the Tel: (420-2)216 74 500 for their the OMRI publishing office in Prague. Hope this information helps. Certainly our receipt of v.4:no.1 (1997:June) of only a few days ago implies it is alive and well, albeit under a 'slightly' changed name. *************************************************************************** Helen M. On pp.2-3 the editor writes a history of periodicals with the title "Transition." On p.3 the editor states: "And then there is our own, now monthly, magazine, which with this issue has been renamed slightly as _Transitions_. The change has been made less to distinguish us from others than to reflect the notion that no single set of transformative rituals will or should apply to all countries within the former Soviet Union and formerly communist Europe...." The new e-mail address is (naturally): transitions@omri.cz. Unfortunately, there is nothing that I can find in the issue to indicate whether there were any issues published between vol.3,no.6, 4 Apr 1997 of _Transition_ and vol.4,no.1 of the "new" title, _Transitions_. I have e-mailed the publisher requesting this information and will share it on SERIALST when I hear back from them. Also...if anyone is sitting on an extra copy of vol.3,no.4 that they would be willing to part with, please let me know. Ours must have sprouted legs... We did not receive nos. 7-10 of vol. 3, but if you read "A Letter to Our Readers" in the beginning of v. 3 no. 6, you will see that a 6 week "pause" was planned. That being the last issue of the old title, it appears to me that a new volume (4) began with the new title. Can't help with the phone no.
