Re: ACM vs. Association for Computing Machinery

To SERIALST:
A recent message discussed the minor change in the title, _Journal of the
Association for Computing Machinery_, to, _Journal of the ACM_. The
summary of AACR2 21.2A1 and the corresponding LCRI was accurate, however
the quote from the _CONSER Cataloging Manual_ was out of context. The
appropriate section in the _CCM_ is found in Module 16.2.3, page 12, no.
6, and is one of several situations that do not constitute a title change
and don't require the creation of a new record:
"The form of the issuing body given at the end of the title
changes (e.g., full form to initialism)."
The record in OCLC is in accord with the rule, the LCRI, and the _CCM_.
Sorry for any confusion.
Remember, please refer to the CONSER home page for email addresses for
serials cataloging questions/problems, which is at the end of the home
page and includes "mailto" links to the various addresses.
