ALA ALCTS Publisher/Vendor Library Relations Committee

                   Open Forum on Outsourcing

Changing relationships among publishers, vendors and librarians:
In an age of outsourcing - whose job is it anyway?

          Monday February 17, 1997 9:30-11:00 am
            Renaissance Washington Hotel Rooms 12-13

Moderated by Trisha Davis, Chair of PVLR, this Open Forum will provide
the opportunity for discussion among book vendors, subscription agents,
publishers, book reviewers, and librarians on the topic of Outsourcing.
There will be short presentations on outsourcing initiatives, pilot
projects, and ongoing programs to provide background the services vendors
are offering and what the market wants and why. The discussion will look
at who the market is, who wants what service, and as outsourcing covers
more of the "traditional" librarian roles, how that affects other
members of the supply/demand chain.

Confirmed participants include:

        Barry Fast, Academic Book Center
        Arnie Wright, Baker & Taylor
        Charles Wittenberg, Blackwell North America
        Bill Ott, Editor, Booklist
        Stan Terry, EBSCO
        Janice McIntyre, Faxon
        Larry Price, Ingram Library Services
        Gary Houk, OCLC
        Judy Schott, Readmore
        Marie Gillies, Swets
        JohnSecor, Yankee Book Peddler

Please join us at any time during this program for a lively discussion.
We welcome all questions and comments from librarians, publishers, vendors,
and distributors involved with outsourcing in any format.
