Money Magazine -request for info.

We just had a patron ask for a citation in Money from "this month's
special sections" which are listed at the end of the table of contents. The
patron found the citation in IAC's SearchBank. The pages, however, were not
in the magazine and there was no evidence of them being ripped out.
I called Money's customer service and found out that the subscriber
has to choose one of three topics covered in the special sections and only
those pages are then included in that subscriber's issues. This started
sometime in 1996 and evidently a mailing was sent out to inform customers.
Did any of you pick up on this? I'm afraid we don't even open most
mass mailings from publishers; we don't have the staff. And nothing
appeared on our renewal list from EBSCO.
I requested that the customer service representative with whom I
spoke forward my complaint that this special section practice was very
impractical for libraries. If it is listed in the table of contents, it
should be in all issues of the magazine. One should not have to play
guessing games. This will be very difficult for ILL departments.
