CONFERENCE ANNOUNCEMENT AND CALL FOR PAPERS
The Academic Library Association of Ohio (ALAO) announces its 23rd
annual conference, to be held October 31, 1997 in Columbus, Ohio. The
theme of the conference is "COLLABORATIVE ADVENTURES: FORGING NEW
PARTNERSHIPS TO MEET USER NEEDS."
This is an exciting time for librarians--today's environment
encourages us to take risks. Every new opportunity to provide better
services to our users is a new adventure, providing us with the chance
to establish new partnerships. In order to keep up with technological
opportunities and to meet the ever-increasing expectations of our
users, we need to aggressively forge new relationships with
information providers, with vendors, with other libraries, and even
with our users. This conference will focus on some of the creative
partnerships that librarians are building in order to meet new
challenges in today's dynamic library setting.
ALAO invites program proposals on any aspect of collaboration or
cooperation within libraries. Possible topics include:
librarian-faculty relationships
cooperative collection development
collaboration of academic libraries and private industry
merging of academic computing centers and libraries
unique partnerships among university departments
collaborative solutions to instructional challenges
building positive relations with vendors and publishers
developing library consortiums
collaborating with other professional organizations in higher
education site licensing agreements creative staffing solutions
Session formats may include panel discussions, mini-workshops, reports
of research, individual presentations, special interest group
meetings, group discussions, and poster sessions.
