Hunting, Gathering and Crafting in Cyberspace:
A Discussion of Current Issues
and Practices for Serialists
WHO: The presenters for this program are Maggie Rioux, Information
Systems Librarian, Marine Biological Laboratory/Woods Hole
Oceanographic Institution, and Steve Oberg, Head, Bibilographic
Control, University of Chicago. Rioux and Oberg are currently the
co-chairs of NASIG's Electronic Communications Committee.
WHAT: This program will focus on why librarians should collect web
resources, how to decide what to collect, and what models librarians
can use to control and integrate electronic resources into technical
services operations. There will also be time allotted for discussion
and a question and answer period. There is no charge for this
program. There is a small charge for parking in visitors' lots.
WHERE: Room 214, Manning Hall, University of North Carolina at Chapel
Hill
From East, take Rt. 40 West to exit #273. Turn South on Route 54
toward Chapel Hill. Continue on Rt. 54 past a shopping center on both
sides of the street (Glen Lenox) and up a hill. Turn right at the
light at the top of the hill onto Country Club Road. Follow that to
the next light and go straight. The street is now Cameron Ave.
Continue down Cameron and there will be visitors' parking lots on both
sides of the street after you pass the "old well."
From West of Chapel Hill, take Rt. 40 East to exit #266. Turn South
on Rt. 86 (Airport Rd.). Follow Airport Rd. into downtown Chapel
Hill, continuing on until you cannot go straight any further (you are
now on Columbia St). The Carolina Inn will be directly in front of
you. Turn left onto Cameron Ave. and look for the visitor lots on
either side of the street.
From Durham, follow Rt. 15-501 into Chapel Hill, veering right
onto East Franklin St. Follow Franklin St. into downtown, turning
left onto Columbia at the center of town. Go straight to the Carolina
Inn and turn left onto Cameron Ave. and look for the visitor lots on
either side of the street.
