Dear people,

before all, excuse the cross-posting to related lists (COLLDV-L, LIBADMIN,
LIBDEV, LIBPLN-L, LIBRARY, PUBLIB, SERIALST)  and the newbie and/or FAQ
question.

I need, if possible, informations about the acquisition policies in the
great libaries in the world.

Here in Italy, if I want to publish anything, I must send a copy of my work
(at my expenses) to different institutions (like the 2 our National Central
Libraries) but I've heard that in other countries (like USA) the things are
totally different: here some great libraries must purchase (at their
expenses) all the publications in their country and also worldwide (or at
last  particular collections and/or serials)....is it true ?

Thanks in advance for your answers, suggestions, etc. and still excuse for
