HEAD, TECHNICAL RESOURCES
The New York Academy of Medicine Library seeks a
creative, experienced leader in technical resources to:
coordinate, facilitate and supervise all aspects of
acquisitions, bibliographic control, physical
processing and serials control; direct the
development,implementation and evaluation of
departmental processes and practices; maximize
available resources and ensure the successful delivery
of services that support the library. The person
in this position is actively involved in implementing
current developments and technological operations in
technical services; coordinating the integrated library
system; directing the collection development
activities; planning and implementing policies and
procedures for bibliographic control of library
materials and managing the resources budget. S/he
supervises 5 FTE support staff and one professional
librarian.
QUALIFICATIONS: In addition to an ALA accredited MLS, a
minimum of five years of experience in and
comprehensive knowledge of all aspects of technical
services and the ability to design a technical
resources department ready to meet the challenges
of the future. There should be evidence of strong
supervisory and management skills; demonstrated ability
to plan and implement change; excellent oral and
written communications skills; the ability to work in a
rapidly changing environment; and evidence of and
commitment to continuing participation in professional
activities. Familiarity with new technologies
including bibliographic control of electronic
resources, and knowledge of integrated library
systems, Innovative Interfaces, Inc. preferred.
Knowledge of health science resources preferred.

The New York Academy of Medicine is a not-for-profit
corporation founded in 1847 to enhance the health of
the public. The Library maintains approximately
700,000 volumes, including 49,000 rare books, and 2,000
serial subscriptions. Current acquisitions cover all
areas of biomedicine, but emphasize public health,
medical education, health policy, the societal aspects
of medicine and the history of medicine. The Library
is the headquarters of the Middle Atlantic Region of
the National Network of Libraries of Medicine as well
as a general member of the Research Libraries Group.
