What do Postmasters Know?

Delivery by USPS to a campus mailroom is a waste of library money because
the library paid for delivery to the library. University administrative
expenditures, including the campus mailroom, have only increased over
the last 25 years while library expenditures have been severely cut. In
my eyes there is a direct connection between the "containment" of library
spending and "overhead" bloat.
The growth of library expenditures at most universities have not kept
pace with research (which generates so many research publications), with
instruction, with administration, or with the growth of total general and
and educational expenditures.
I say the financial benefit of eliminating the campus mailroom should go
to the library, where it will benefit the research, instruction and public
service goals of the university.
Only my opinion, of course.

Lisa Macklin, INTERNET:lisa.macklin@IBID.LIBRARY.GATECH.EDU asked:
How is delivery to a campus mailroom a waste of library money? The
university pays the salaries, etc. of the campus mailroom and would reap the
financial benefit, if any, of eliminating the mailroom.
