[Chicago]-Are you a library science student or a new member of the American
Library Association? Will you be attending the 1997 ALA Midwinter Meeting
in Washington, D. C.? Is this your first trip to our nation's capitol?
Would you like information to reacquaint yourself with the District? If
you've answered "yes" to any of these questions then visit our web site at
the following URL:

The New Members Round Table offers new members or individuals with less
than ten years' experience within the American Library Association the
opportunity to become involved within the profession by serving on
committees and acquiring leadership skills.
We offer three awards each year: the EBSCO/NMRT Scholarship, the Shirley
Olofson Memorial Award and the 3M/NMRT Professional Development Grant. The
EBSCO/NMRT Scholarship is awarded to an applicant who must be planning to
enroll (either for the first time or as a continuing student) in graduate
studies in the summer or fall of 1997 in a formal program of library
education leading to a master's degree. The Shirley Olofson Memorial Award
is presented annually in honor of Shirley Olofson, a former NMRT President,
who died during her term in office. The award, which is intended to help
defray the costs to attend the ALA Annual Conference, will be presented in
the form of a check for $500.00 at the NMRT President's Program during the
1997 Annual Conference in San Francisco. The 3M/NMRT Professional
Development Grant will help finance attendance at the ALA Annual Conference.
This award covers round trip airfare, lodging, conference registration fees
and some incidental expenses.
Visit our web site often during the next few months to find out about NMRT
activities, including the Social, and information on where to stay, eat and
visit while in the District. And visit our booth while in Washington, D.C.
Have a great meeting!
