Re: Electronic journal user authentication - update and thanks Jack Etsweiler 13 Dec 1996 14:51 UTC

The first problem that comes to mind when using a domain/IP authentication
process is when, like Eastern Michigan and the University of Michigan and
several of the other public institutions here, there is a common logon
domain. All of these schools, as well as some commercial users, log on as
mich.net, which would not go far to satisfy copyright concerns or
licensing agreements with our publishers. Eastern has a similar dilemma
with our Usenet News server, in that there is no authentication server.
In this case, it is not possible to go into newsgroups with a web browser
from anwhere off campus. I suspect that there are some parallels with
electronic journals.
