POSITION ANNONCEMENT

SERIALS LIBRARIAN, Fordham University Library, Bronx, New York.

Responsibilities: Under the direction of the Head of the Serials Department,
performs original and copy cataloging for all types of serial publications in
a variety of formats, languages and subjects, using MARC format, AACR2,
Library of Congress classification and subject headings. Handles all the
procedures necessitated by bibliographical changes of serial publications
(title and frequency changes, cessations, splits and merges, etc.) including
verifying, updating databases, editing records. Adds and updates serial
holdings statements (Local Data Records) in the OCLC Union Serials List.
Identifies and resolves problems, recommends improvements and practical
solutions. Carries out special projects related to serials management as
it becomes necessary.

Qualifications: Master's degree in library science preferred, additional
master's degree is desirable. Cataloging experience (preferably of serials),
familiarity with a bibliographical utility (preferably OCLC) and with an
automated library system (preferably DRA). Must have previous experience
and proven ability to work with complex periodical material. Ability to
accept technological changes and work successfully in a rapidly developing
computerized environment. Knowledge of foreign languages is a plus.

Salary: commensurate with experience.
Start date: January 1997.
