Re: Serials Weeding Policies

Serials weeding policy.
We don't have a formal policy, but we do have
procedures that may be helpful.
Two years we made a list of all the serial titles
in our collection. We had our shelvers check off each
issue that was reshelved over the course of two years.
Any title that was used less than 3 times we considered
as a weeding candidate.
In addition we looked at indexing, format, and price.
We checked to see if the periodical is indexed in any
of our indexes. In particular we were most interested in
those that are indexed on our CD ROM products.
We also considered weeding and title that was a
newsletter. Of course price is always a factor too.
After weeding the collection, we still kept up the list.
Any title not used 3 times and not weeded was kept on
the list. We also are putting new subscriptions on the
list automatically.
We will review the list again in a year.
Hope this helps
