The combined issues 51 and 52 >for MMWR< is normal/typical.

The idea of an issue >53 in a 52-week year has always been a
"huh?"-trigger for me, so I always remember there is something
"different"/odd about it. I just checked our shelves: issue 53 of MMWR for
a given volume number is the "Summary of Notifiable Diseases, United
States 19xx", and is typically/traditionally published in October (or so)
of the following year.  Issue 53 for v. 43, 1994 for example, is
"published October 6, 1995, for 1994 / Vol. 43 / No.  53", and is the
latest issue on hand (seemingly, the 1995 data, published in late-1996 is
due).

Because of this delay, and the nature of the issue, we shelve the
"Summary" (issue 53) separately.
