At a CLA ACTSS conference last year on Cyperfrisbies, Claire LeDonne
from UC Berkeley, and Ken Sogar of SCS Information Systems did a
presentation on these legal issues. They indicated that they had had
success renegotiating the licensing, and suggested that including in all
purchase orders for electronic media a disclaimer detailing the library's
intentions for use of the product is as binding as vendors
shrinkwrap agreements. They mentioned that EDUCOM has a model Computer
Use Policy. With nine libraries scattered around California, we are
in the process of networking CD-ROM, multimedia and online databases and
developing policies for vendor licensing along the lines suggested.
