BIBLIOGRAPHIC CONTROL LIBRARIAN

RESPONSIBILITIES: Plan, coordinate, document, and evaluate bibliographic
control functions, including cataloging, classification, and authority
maintenance. Oversee participation in OCLC Enhance and TOC programs.
Review and resolve reports produced by local system and authority vendor.
With representatives of other member institutions, determine standards and
practices for bibliographic control in local-system consortium.
Participate in structuring library Web site, and provide leadership in
bringing principles of bibliographic control to the organization of new
information environments. Train and serve as resource for staff working
with copy and original cataloging in all formats; participate in
performance evaluation of staff. Contribute to Division management and
policy formulation, to promote timely and effective access to library
materials and information for library users. In addition to primary
duties, participate in selection of materials, collection management, and
library instruction, as assigned, and in the governance structure of the
Libraries' faculty. Contribute to librarianship through research,
presentation of papers, publication, professional activities, etc.

REPORT TO: Head of Collection Services. Collection Services includes
Technical Services Unit (3 librarians, 7 classified and 1 administrative
staff) and Circulation Unit.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR POSITION: Required: ALA/MLS; minimum of three years'
and maximum of seven years' professional experience in an academic or
research library, primarily in cataloging and bibliographic control
activities; experience with AACR2, MARC, LCSH, and LCCS; familiarity with
a major bibliographic utility, integrated local library systems, and
technical services workflows; reading knowledge of one or more foreign
languages; demonstrated ability to work both independently and as a member
of team; demonstrated effective written and oral communication, training,
planning, and problem-solving skills. Must demonstrate ability to meet
requirements for faculty promotion and tenure; and provide proof of
eligibility to work in the United States pursuant to U.S. Immigration
Laws. Desired: Second master's degree; experience with OCLC; knowledge of
technical services modules of Innovative Interfaces library system.

SALARY/APPOINTMENT: Ten-month, tenure-track appointment at the Assistant
Librarian level with salary from $35,000/annually, depending on degrees
and experience. TIAA/CREF retirement program; comprehensive medical
insurance; 20 days' vacation and established holidays; generous sick
leave; assistance with moving expenses; support for professional
development; no state or local income taxes.
