Mr. Henderson's reply tickled my funnybone and I've worked in serial
records for 10 years, in one capacity or another. We're not curing
cancer here, let's lighten up. The question whether the online
serial record incorporates all the data on the Kardex before you
discard the latter is a valid one.

I considered discarding our old checkin cards, but I'm glad that I
did not. Our serials checkin module has been active for just over a
year and there have been several occasions where I wondered "did we
EVER have this volume (or issue) or is this a gap?" Sometimes we find input
errors and only the original holding cards can solve the problem. We
are also thinking of migrating from VTLS to another system in the
next couple of years and I may want the cards to use in that project.
