I have worked in libraries with either classified or alphabetical serials.
I prefer alphabetical arrangement, because I think it is much easier for
students. It used to drive me crazy watching students having to look up the
call number for each periodical. I think it just forces them to one more
step in an already long and confusing process of finding articles. We have
lists of our serials available that clearly state the former and later
titles under each title. Our students seem to cope. I do think that our
students come primarily with citations to specific articles and are not
examining complete runs.
