Hi Jeanette...
One thing to consider is using the dates of the indexes
online. E.g. if you were a medical library, you might consider
using the 1960 cutoff point, since that's when MEDLARS began. I
know that they are doing some retrospective conversion, but its
still a very handy cut-off point.
Since your collection is more general academics, it may
depend on the discipline involved. Perhaps starting with
everything prior to 1911 or prior to 1935 would work?
