Subject: encumbering serial titles
I'm wondering if there are librarians out there who make it
their practice to project costs each year on a
title-by-title basis (that is, for each individual serial
title), and then "disencumber" as actual expenditures come
in. Is this a common or rare practice?
Is there anyone who does this for a reason OTHER than a
system requirement?
If you do this, do you include continuations among the
projected/encumbered titles?
Do the total expenditures reconcile with the totals from the
title-by-title projections fairly well? Better than if you
had done a projection based on your title list in
aggregrate? (Has anyone had the experience of comparing
results of the more detailed and the simpler approach?)
Please respond to me rather than to the list. Thanks for
any information.
