At our library we kept kardexes (when we worked maually) of ceased and
cancelled titles for 5 years.  In 1989 when we went online, we wanted to keep
the kardexes for 5 years too. In 1994, we had to move to smaller space in
another building and hence the decision to ditch all the kardexes had to be
made. Our online system (NOTIS) does not allow much room for notes, but we have
somehow lived with it.
At first, staff found it very difficult to part with them, but we could
not justify continuing to maintain them, especially in view of the staff time
involved for too little gain. We do have a correspondence file for keeping
important information.
