TENURE-TRACK POSITION IN THE ACQUISITIONS AND COLLECTION MANAGEMENT
DEPARTMENT OF THE MERIAM LIBRARY

JOB DESCRIPTION:  Full-time (12 month with 10 month option), tenure-track
librarian in Acquisitions

RESPONSIBILITIES:  The librarian works with collection development
librarians, library staff, and faculty to acquire resources, including
monographs, periodicals, standing orders, non-print media, and electronic
resources, that support both the Library's internal physical collections
and its growing electronic collections. The incumbent manages acquisitions
operations, including pre-order searching; fund accounting activities;
invoicing; monitoring the approval plan; copy cataloging; claiming; and
library mail distribution. Incumbent supervises 5.5 FTE acquisitions
support staff.  As part of the Acquisitions and Collection Management
Department, supports the Library's program of "just-in-time" acquisition
of information including document delivery contracts, and designs and
implements other departmental projects as needed. Along with other
librarians, serves as a faculty liaison for one or more academic subject
areas.  Responsibilities in the subject area include collection
development and maintenance, faculty consultation, and may include some
reference and instruction. As a faculty member participates in library
governance, professional development, and university service.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: MLS from an ALA accredited program
Knowledge of library acquisitions practices
Minimum two years experience in academic library acquisitions or related
field
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Familiarity with automated library systems
Ability to be flexible in a rapidly changing environment

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:  Experience with the newer technologies and the
Internet
Cataloging and/or collection development experience
Commitment to professional development

RANK AND SALARY:        Senior Assistant Librarian; Range 3,
Step 1 $33,108 - Step 10 $40,752
