E.M. Cudahy Memorial Library of Loyola University Chicago has an
opportunity available for the position of Library Associate II (Serials
Acquisitions) after June 30, 1996.
The successful candidate will supervise the serials acquisitions section
which acquires, receives and pays for periodicals and continuation titles.
Sets priorities and monitors progress for the section. Plans and
oversees projects relating to serials acquisitions. Trains and supervises
two full time library assistants. Processes order requests for periodicals
and continuation titles in all physical formats; uses print and non-print
resources to identify the materials to be ordered and determines the most
suitable method to acquire the materials. Reviews and approves
invoices in a variety of European languages and currencies. Resolves
complex problems regarding a variety of records in NOTIS.
Communicates regularly with domestic and foreign vendors and
publishers to resolve problems regarding orders and invoices.
Requirements: B.S./B.A. and 2-3 years relevant library experience,
preferably in acquisitions or serials operations; previous supervisory and
management experience; strong organizational skills; strong
interpersonal skills; excellent written and oral communication skills;
strong analytical and problem solving skills; ability to work with highly
detailed information, especially with accounting information; experience
with an automated library system preferably NOTIS, word processing
and PCs. Working knowledge of a European language highly desirable.
Knowledge of accounting practices desirable.
