Position Title: Head, Serials Group
Classification: Associate Librarian/Librarian
Salary Range: Associate Librarian $37,008-$58,620
(inhire max $47,028)
Librarian $42,216-$70,476
(inhire max 55,452)
The Coordinator of the Serials Group is one of six Group
heads who report directly to the AUL for Technical Services.
The Serials Group includes responsibility for ordering,
receiving and maintaining over 50,000 active serial titles,
including government document serials. Serials Cataloging is
not included in this group.
The Group is currently staffed for manual serials control at
15 FTE, including one supervisor and one team leader.
With Standford's migration from NOTIS to Sirsi's Unicorn
library system, converting all of Stanford's serials holdings
to on-line check-in records in Unicorn is high on the agenda
for the coming two years.
<.B+>Specific Responsibilities:<.B->
* Manage the work of the Serials Group; develop policies,
goals, and priorities.
* Plan and coordinate implementation of online serials
check-in.
* Manage personnel resources of the unit to meet changing
requirements for serials support.
* Maintain close and productive relationships with the
Academic Information Services Program and the Collections
Program.
* Contribute to on-going reengineering of technical services
processes, including those of the Serials Acquisitions Group.
* Participate in program planning within acquisitions generally,
within Technical Services, and within the Libraries.
* Maintain a smooth and productive interface with Serials
Cataloging and other processing units.
* Develop a serials control model which is inclusive of all
formats with focused consideration on emerging management
and delivery needs for electronic serials.
<.B+>Qualifications:<.B->
* Requires experience managing serial access and control
issues and details in large library setting usually
associated with 5 years of experience.
* Requires experience managing online serials check-in
preferably via major library systems vendor.
* Requires experience supervising a serials processing
unit of over 5 FTE.
* Requires the ability to manage staff, time, and projects
in a rapidly changing, complex environment.
* Requires demonstrated capacity to work effectively and
collegially with all levels of library staff and patrons.
* Excellent communication skills in writing and in person
are essential.
* Requires M.L.S. from an ALA-accredited library school or
the equivalent in training and experience.
* Prefer an academic research library background.
More experience and depth of knowledge are required to be
considered for the rank of Librarian
