ASSISTANT DIRECTOR, TECHNICAL AND AUTOMATED SERVICES

The J. Robert Van Pelt Library seeks a dynamic, confident, progressive
leader capable of the following: guiding our vision and the implementation
of emerging library technology, building a diverse team to accomplish the
coordination of all library automation activiities, and managing challenging
opportunitites.

OVERVIEW OF POSITION: Responsible for all facets of Technical and Automated
Services, and for the ongoing management and coordination of all library
automation activities.   As a member of the Library's senior management
team, the Assistant Director for Technical and Automated Services will
participate in long term planning, budgeting and general management of the
Library.

REQUIRED: ALA accredited graduate degree in library or information science;
five years progressively more responsible professional library experience in
both Systems and Technical Services; supervisory experience; demonstrated
understanding of emerging technological innovations in support of all
library service functions; demonstrated familiarity with cataloging and
acquisitions issues and technologies; demonstrated excellent leadership,
communication, and organizational skills; demonstrated ability to accept and
manage change and set priorities; and demonstrated knowledge of AACR2 and
MARC formats.

DESIRED: Professional experience working in an academic library; budgeting
experience.

BENEFITS: Expected salary is mid to upper $30s. Competitive Benefits package
available.

SALARY RANGE: $30,313 to $48,501

ENVIRONMENT: Michigan Technological University is located in Michigan's
scenic Upper Peninsula and has over 6,000 students enrolled in its
undergraduate and graduate programs.  It is the Upper Midwest's only public

business, technology, communications and forestry.  The J. Robert Van Pelt
Library employs a staff of 35, including 12 professional librarians.  The
Library uses a team-oriented approach to problem solving in a rapidly
changing environment.  We are a development partner with Endeavor
Information System's Voyager software product  and are currently in
production with most modules which  run on a Unix and Window client/ server
platform.
