--SERIALS CATALOGING LIBRARIAN__
Portland State University Library seeks an experienced serials
catalog librarian to provide original serials cataloging and difficult copy
cataloging, series and name authority work in a variety of
formats and in all Roman-alphabet languages. Responsibilities include
adding call numbers and subject headings to serial cataloging copy,
supervising the serials copy cataloger, preparing local holdings
and check-in information for input into the Portland State University
SIRSI serials check-in system. Is also responsible for data input into
the Oregon Regional Union List of Serials via the OCLC PRISM
Service, and assisting in training Serials Section support staff.
Expected to serve on Library and University committees, participate in
library instruction, and perform special projects and other related
duties as assigned. Reports to the Head of the Cataloging
Section.
The Portland State University Library has holdings of approximately
one million volumes and approximately 11,000 serials subscriptions.
The Library uses the SIRSI integrated library system and is a member of WLN.
QUALIFICATIONS: Required: Accredited MLS degree; two years
experience with serials cataloging in an automated environment;
reading knowledge of at least one foreign language; demonstrated interest in
principles and processes of bibliographic control (including AACR2,
Library of Congress classification and subject headings), and the application of
technology to them; excellent oral and written communication skills;
ability to work effectively with all levels of staff;
and potential to excel in a dynamic and challenging academic library
environment.
Cartographic cataloging training desirable. Second masters degree
required for promotion and tenure.
RANK: Assistant Professor (faculty status; renewable, tenure
track position; 12 month contract)
SALARY: $30,780 minimum. Benefits include a choice of medical
plans(Blue Cross/Blue Shield or HMO options), several retirement plans,
22 vacation days, and staff tuition rates.
