Thanks to everyone for the fast responses to my question.  I have
forwarded my original query and all responses to the editor, via
his e-mail address.  Maybe if enough people complain, at least one
editor will understand that these kinds of issues really matter to
libraries.  (And maybe the sun won't rise tomorrow, either.)
