Subject: virtual holdings

I'm involved in a research project to find out how other libraries are
treating "virtual" holdings. I have not seen this subject discussed on this
listserv in the relatively short period of time that I have been a
subscriber. My apologies if it has been discussed recently, or if you have
seen it on more than one listserv.

For those who take the trouble to answer these questions, I will summarize
the responses. Please respond directly to me at my e-mail address.

Libraries have traditionally provided "seamless" access through their
catalogs to print and media holdings.
Do you provide similar access to electronic serial holdings accessed through
the Internet?

When does something to which you have electronic access become defined as
part of your "holdings"?

Do you feel that electronic serial resources are a type of "holdings"?

Libraries have increasingly provided access to serial holdings seamlessly
through the same OPAC that patrons search for print and media holdings. Do
you also provide access to electronic serial holdings through the OPAC?

If not, do you provide any type of "access"/cataloging to electronic serials
holdings?
If so, how/where?

How and when do you show the beginning and ending of electronic serials
holdings?

Do you count electronic serial holdings along with print serials holdings in
determining total subscriptions for statistical reporting?

If not presently, do you plan to do any of the above in the immediate future?

Do you have policies/procedures for any of the above which you would be
willing to share?
