SERIALS CATALOGER: The University of Wyoming is seeking applicants
for the position of serials cataloger. This position will catalog
serials in all languages using AACR2, LC Classification, Subject
Headings and Rule Interpretations, and CONSER guidelines, with
primary responsibility for the cataloging of Wyoming state and local
serials titles. Assists with special cataloging projects. The
Library uses OCLC and has a CARL OPAC. Librarians hold faculty
status with expectations for scholarship and service.
REQUIRED: MLS degree from an ALA accredited program or an acceptable
equivalent combination of education and experience. One year of
professional experience doing original cataloging using AACR2, LC
rule interpretations, MARC tagging and LCSH. Demonstrated oral and
written communication skills. Ability to establish and maintain
effective working relationships.
PREFERRED: Serials cataloging in a medium to large academic library.
OCLC experience. Reading knowledge of foreign language(s). .
SALARY: Commensurate with qualifications and experience; $26,000
minimum; 12 month appointment, 22 days vacation, sick leave, group
health insurance, state and TIAA CREFF retirement plans, no state
income tax.
ENVIRONMENT: The University of Wyoming is the only four year
institution of higher education in the state; nine colleges and
schools form the foundation for its education and research programs.
The University, a land grant institution, has placed special emphasis
on a number of cross-disciplinary programs. The University's library
collections total over 1,134,000 volumes. Laramie, a city of 26,000
located 130 miles northwest of Denver, offers a reasonable cost of
living and the friendly, relaxed atmosphere of a small city combined
with the cultural and community activities associated with the
University.
