Thanks to all of you who replied to my numbering dilemma for "New
Blackfriars."  I just received a response from the publisher which clears
things up nicely.... (please note not only the issue numbers, but vol. 77
as well).  His reply:

The printers made a mistake with the January issue.

Number vol 77 no 899 December 1995 on the contents page but clearly described
on the front cover as January 1996 should have been vol 77 no 900 January 1996
and is the papers from the Catholic Theological Conference titled Sacrament
and Society with Peter Phillips as the first article.

Please let me know if you have not received this issue.

February should have been numbered 901 (Comment: Vision and Reality)
March is 902 as it should have been.

I always thought that we should have published an apology and correction but
the production manager Sr Jackie OP, thought that we could get away without
the error ever being noticed.

How wrong she was, yours is at least the fourth enquiry from subscribers
to our wonderful journal, as I shall now email her to say!
