Dear serials librarians,
I have received many replies to my query on binding volumes that do not
follow the calendar year. The consensus seems to be that slash marks are
used for volumes that cross years (1993/94, e.g.) and dashes for volumes
that encompass two complete years (1993-94). Some who responded follow
slightly different practices, but most people felt that it was better to
put as much information on the spine as practical, as a guide for patrons.
Thank you to all who responded and shared their library's practices with me.
It really helps to hear other people's experiences!
