Hello--
We are a small academic library with about 250 titles. We have a SIRSI
system. Before we went on line in 1993 (which was before my time here),
periodicals were checked in using a good old fashioned Kardex. Now that
SIRSI has implemented the use of the 853 and 863 tags to show bib holdings,
we've decided to retrospectively convert, if you will, all old checkins in
the Kardex for periodicals still on the shelf. This is proving to be a
painstaking task, and if anyone with experience could help me I'd be most
grateful. My question is this: How should we enter holdings for bound
volumes? Should we enter individual issues within the bound volume as
holdings, or enter each bound volume itself as a holding? Some of our
titles go back 50+ years and it would require a lot of person-power (which
we don't have) to enter each issue for such titles.
If my question seems pathetically simple, please forgive me. I am a true
neophyte to the world of Serials and need *all* the help I can get.
Thank you in advance
