I am sorry if this has already been discussed, but I don't remember
it being mentioned.

We have a 3M security system and many, many students here are very
reluctant to take computer disks through the gate.  They hold the disks
above their heads and often (my real complaint) their entire book
bags.  I tell them there is no danger to their disks.  They say they
have heard stories about disks getting messed up.  Better safe than
sorry.  Is there something I can say to ease their minds?  Or are they
right?  Does anyone have an official statement from 3M?
