Periodicals/Public Services Librarian

Southern Connecticut State University is seeking a full time librarian,
tenure track position to work in the Periodicals Department.
Responsibilities: This position combines public and technical services
functions. Provides assistance to library patrons with library collections,
primarily periodicals collections. Assists with training in the use of
electronic and online information resources; serials database maintenance
including record creation/editing, checkin, claiming, and bindery
processing; participate in the bibliographic instruction program. Rotation
to other public services departments may be expected, but most public
services work will be in the Periodicals Department. Some evening or weekend
work may be required.
Qualifications required: ALA-accredited MLS; experience in academic,
public, or special library. Demonstrated ability to work well with
students, faculty, and library staff; some knowledge of computers, an
integrated library system, Internet, CD-ROM databases, and periodicals
indexes and abstracts.
Qualifications preferred: experience with Innovative Interfaces library system.
Salary and benefits: To be determined. Minimum salary for Staff Librarian
(Instructor): $30,869; minimum salary for Assistant Librarian: $34,638 for
12-month appointment. TIAA/CREF or State of Connecticut retirement; 22 days
vacation; 15 days sick leave; 3 days personal leave; menu of health care
insurance options.
Faculty responsibilities: this is a tenure-track faculty appointment.
Renewal, promotion, and tenure are based on evaluation categories of
professional competence, creative activity, productive service to the
department and university, and professional attendance and participation.
