At the U. of Southwestern Louisiana, we almost always use the original
record when we have a mix of reprint and original holdings. We add
a note to indicate which volumes are reprints. The exception: when
a serial is non-current or no longer received, and if the majority
of the holdings are reprints. In that case, we use the reprint
record, and make a note to say which volumes are original editions.

In the case of titles for which we have multiple formats (original,
reprint, and microform being the primary choices), we have two holdings
statements on each record, one for the format represented by the record and
the other for the combined holdings in all formats. We have these notes
input in such a way that the combined holdings are displayed prominantly
and the format-specific holdings buried near the bottom of the record (we
have Innopac as our OPAC). This works well because both patrons and
reference staff see what we actually have and, in case of questions about
which volumes are in a specific format, we have easy access to the answers.
