Subject: ? Names for Periodicals/Journals Area

The University of Kentucky is currently constructing a new library building
which will open in 1997. We have a Serials Stacks and Services Task Force
that is charged with determing what materials will go into two floors. One
floor will have a current issues area, newspapers, service desk and
microformats. The second floor will house bound serials.

We would like input on what to call the current unbound issues area and the
bound volume area. We have received the recommendation that we need to be
consistent (ie, unbound serials, bound serials).

Current Unbound Issues area will include:
1. No serials published annually or less frequent.
2. No newspapers, but will include periodicals in newpaper format.
3. Current titles.
4. Current subscriptions.
5. No government agency reports published more often than annually.
      (we are a depository library)
6. Selected high use government serials.
7. No prebound serials.

Bound Serial Volume area will include:
1. Periodicals.
2. Annuals.
3. Irregulars.
4. Oversize serials.

We would also like comments on what we have listed as going into these areas.
Please send comments to me and I will summarize for the list if there is
interest.
